30mpg 2-up?

I purchased a used 2006 Vrod recently and have mostly ridden 2 up. I am 2 tank fills in so far and I am only averaging like 100 miles to a full tank (I ran out and coasted to the station at 102 on the last fill). Unfortunately the gas gauge is useless, gas light comes on at 65 miles and it gauge says I'm out at 80.

Anyway, 30mpg seems pretty low... (At best). (Total weight of roughly 350). Am I missing something?
