These bags have a history - I want to provide full disclosure about these bags :)
First I bought them from a fellow member. He was very up front about having bought them 2nd hand and he admitted had never put them on his bike. We met up so I could inspect the bags and bike rack and I made the purchase. Once I got home I realized the rack wasn't for a VROD - the member offered to refund me in full (stand up guy) but I decided the bags were still a good deal so I hung on to them. That is part 1 of the story.
Part 2 - I ordered the correct 2003 VROD rack for the bags. One week later it was here and I was ready to install the rack and the bags. Only then did I realize that the bags themselves were missing a vital bracket. These bags (13 years old?) were missing their quick release bracket. I didn't even know they were supposed to have a bracket and I don't think the original seller did either - no worries. I'll get brackets.
Part 3 - They don't sell just the brackets. So I did the next best thing - I had my Macgyver buddy fabricate me some brackets. He was working off of the drawing I had of what the new brackets look like. He had my bike (with the bag rack installed) for two weeks while he fabricated the brackets and powder coated them black.
Part 4 - I went to pick up the bike and it looked great - the bags were finally on the bike. As I headed home I would glimpse back and saw BOTH bag tops were flapping in the wind at about 65MPH. The velcro is pretty much shot and the snaps are damn near impossible to snap. About 5 miles later I looked back again and the LEFT bag was GONE! I did a 6 mile circle back on I-295 and found the right bag on the side of the road. It hadn't been hit or smashed but it definitely had some road rash from sliding to a stop.
Part 5 - It is 102 degrees and I'm laying on the asphalt under this bike trying to zip-tie this bag in place until I get home (stopped at walmart for some zip-ties).
Part 6 - I get home, take the leather bags off, get on HD website and order the nylon bags with brackets - I've given up on these leather bags.
That was about 3 weeks ago - I've finally taken the photos and thought that maybe someone on here is interested in taking these leather bags (scars and all) and fabricated brackets and making them work. I'd like to get $150 (I'm about $400 into them by now) including shipping somewhere in the lower 48 states. I'm also willing to meet you somewhere if you are in the North Florida area. I took a TON of photos including all rips, tears, road rash, etc. Nothing to hide here - I want you to know exactly what you are signing up for if you decide to tackle this project.
Thanks for checking them out!
