a different bike...

...first off I wanna say HI to everyone...its been quite awhile since I have been on the forum..

Ok...now here is my situation..my dearest brother rides a 1974 850 Norton Commando..it is the ONLY bike he has ever owned, and he bought this bike NEW in '74...it looks and runs better than the day he rode it off the showroom floor.

The guy is 64 yrs young, and like a lot of us old farts, are developing some health issues, mainly his back..he can ride about 150 miles in a day then he is shot. He wants to get something else, but of course keep his trophy winner, but he does NOT want a Harley.

If anyone of you are familiar with Nortons,or any "old" Brit bikes, you sit "on" the bike, legs straight down, where as a lot of new bikes you sit "in" it. Now I am 60 yrs young, and also have a Norton,a '72 750,and my back is in better shape then my bro's,but I can only ride that thing for about 200 miles myself, where with The B, I can do hundreds of miles in a day. He has ridden The B a few times, but not for a long cruise..he likes the power and how it handles, plus all you have to do is push a button to start it,instead of jumpin' up and down like drug crazed chimpanzee! He IS looking into an aftermarket electric start kit..for $2,500!

My local HD stealer rents bikes..$150 for 24 hours, unlimited mileage, but only baggers..but like I said,he is not interested in a Harley.
Bikes have come a long way in comfort in the 42 years that he has had his Commando. He liked the VTX1300 I had,a bit heavy compared to the 470lb-ish Norton, and he is in awe of the "power" The B has..
So...do other manufacturers "rent" for a day also? he needs to ride something all day to get a feel of a bike,up and around the corner and back is just not enough time.
Any ideas on what he should look at? He isn't the crotch rocket type, a good cruiser would be his thing.

Thanks for any and all input!
