I've been rolling the dice on my 07 NRS, which does have the Supersmart HD battery tender. Now sometimes the battery doesnt turn over instantly after a cold start. And it would be even worse after riding the bike for 20-30 mins, stopping somewhere for 20-30 mins and starting again. That really killed the battery when attempting to start (it would take several cranks to turn over).
I ended up getting stranded in the same city I live in, in front of a chase bank, starbucks and jamba juice. After 30 mins of waiting I tried cranking again and to no avail. Battery only had juice to power the lights. I bought cheap LED day maker lights off craigslist, they are cheap because fog gets inside the lens. Gotta find a way to seal it... Maybe flex seal? lol
Anyways, after sitting there for awhile, I decided to go inside Chase and the other stores to see if someone had jumper cables. Luckily, someone in jamba juice did. Some older fellow went up to us saying be careful hooking up the battery as it might fry the board on the bike. He went on to talk about the electronics and the jamba juice guy and I looked at each other like, wtf he might be right. I ended up calling my bro and he was like just be careful hooking up the cables correctly. We hooked it up and it cranked on the first attempt.
I ordered a battery last night (Scorpion AGM battery), do you guys think/know this would solve the starting issue I had? The bike would sometimes take a while to start from a cold start and even longer from a secondary start (after riding 20+ minutes).
Cliffs:
-Bike has original battery from 2006 and would take awhile to crank (cold start and after getting somewhere stopping and starting again).
-Got stranded at a local grocery mall
-Got help from jamba juice dude, hooked up jumper cables and bike started in 1 push of the start button.
