I posted this in the new member section but figured it belonged over here so I could get some advice from people with the same model bike... Anyway, I just picked up a 2008 NRS from a friend of my brother-in-law in Michigan. I live in California so I am in the process of getting it shipped out West.
Here's a short history of my journey getting the bike. I used to be a member on this forum back in 2006/2007. At the time I was looking seriously at getting a V-Rod so I was on this forum regularly. Well, it just wasn't in the cards and I eventually bought a brand new 2010 Dyna Fatbob. I've done all sorts of mods on the Fatbob and have been an active member on HDforums.com for the past 6 years. Well, my brother-in-law always knew I had a "thing" for the V-Rod and when one of his co-workers mentioned that we was looking to sell his Night Rod, he contacted me to see if I was interested. The PO had just had twin boys and wanted to get out from under the loan as he had lost interest in the bike. The bike ran when he parked it, however, it sat all summer and eventually, he couldn't get the bike to start. Here's where the story gets interesting. He replaced the battery and got the bike fired up. It idled for a bit and then stalled. He was able to get it fired up and again it idled for a bit and stalled. After that, he has not been able to get it started back up. He says now that the engine is froze up and will not turn over.
I have talked to him and we negotiated the price. I paid $1700.00 for the bike. He has put several upgrades on the bike and I've got my fingers crossed that I can get the bike back up and running. Even if I have to put a new engine in the bike, I'll be money ahead. I'll be posting pics of the progress and, of course tapping into the knowledge base here. Thanks in advance for any and all help.
