Why did I crash?

This past November I took a minor spill on my 07 DX. I was embarking on a long trip and was looking for a motel off the freeway in Bowie, Texas. After stopping at the top of the ramp I turned right and promptly found myself on the pavement with the bike on top of me. It took about a minute to get my foot out from under the bike as fortunately I was wearing heavy boots. I doubt that I was going over about 4 mph. The pavement was slightly damp since it had rained earlier that day. Nothing I hadn't encountered hundreds of times. It happened really fast, but I think the rear tire slid out from under the bike.

The bike has a Metzler M880 on the back and an Avon Cobra AV 71 on the front. Both tires had a few thousand miles on them but had no detectable wear. I've ridden this bike to both coasts as well as three 1800 mile round trips to Sturgis, so I feel like I have plenty of experience with this particular bike.

The worst damage to the bike was a bent rear brake pedal assembly which tweaked the frame where the master cylinder fits the frame. I rode it about 230 miles home the next day without a rear brake. Insurance company gave me $4500 which was pretty nice.

I'm trying to figure out what went wrong. There's not a lot of tread grooves on the outside of either tire. Not because of wear but just the design of the tire. I wasn't going fast enough for tires to be an issue so I guess it must have been operator error- I was tired so maybe I grabbed too much front brake for the surface conditions?

Any other thoughts?
