How to check for proper grounding?

Have a '14 muscle, no electrical mods other than a dealer installed HD security system (when I bought it about a year ago) Have a power vision that is losing communication randomly while riding (got it about two months ago). First unit started losing communication from first ride it was used, disconnecting the comm/power cable and reconnecting would start communication again until it failed (random, sometimes it would take half an hour, others it would do it 3 times in 5 minutes, whether accelerating/decelerating/stopped/at cruising speed). Dynojet sent me another cable, no difference, I tried routing cable differently (cable looped by comm port, cable looped outside by handle bars, cable routed all the way around air box out the other side) no difference, dynojet sent me another unit. This one does the same thing, although I don't need to reseat the power cable to make it communicate again, I simply exit the gauges and go right back in and it's happy for a little while.

So now we're thinking it's the bike somehow. With the second unit, I've seen the HD odometer display a 'BUS ERR' (very rarely though) for a brief moment before starting the engine. So there might be something going on.

They suggested I check for proper grounding, but I'm not sure what that entails on a bike. I mean I understand loose/corroded/damaged, but where?

The power vision says battery is at 14v while riding.

TIA
