Hey all,
I don't really NEED to replace my air filter on my 08 VRSCAWA but it's probably going to need to be replaced or cleaned soon. It appears to be a stock filter (the typical paper/gauze with wire mesh behind it and blue seals).
I have read a lot about AMSOIL filters, but cannot find them for the V-RODS anywhere. Apparently K&N are the more accessible and have gotten away from oiled filters. I have also seen a UNI filter that while it looks cool, can't find much info on, and the ones i've found give contradicting info on whether they will fit a 08.
I don't mind spending the money on a filter im going to use and that can help keep the engine healthy. My questions are:
If I go from the stock to a higher quality/air flow filter (such as what i've read the AMSOIL can provide), do I need to tune the bike? It's completely stock as far as I know (I got it used a few months back w/ 24k miles). I dont have the cash right now to buy a tuner, but it's on my list.
I have seen people say they tune just for the high flow filter, and some that say it's not until you go topless or change exhaust that you need to tune.
Also, if I can do either, which filter should I go with? Will there be any gains besides longevity with going away from the stock filter? I've seen posts about 1-2 hp more possibly from a better filter. Worth 30-40 bucks more if that's the case.
Any input would be nice! And if AMSOIL is still a thing for V-ROD air filters, anyone have any ideas of where to get one? EaAM43701 part #
My goal is to get the Power Vision w/ auto tune and then new exhaust and the best filter. Don't think I will ever get to stage 2, and I don't think I need to. I shouldn't be allowed to go too much faster for my own safety ;)
Happy Holidays to all who read!!
